Wow, another month gone in the blink of an eye, but what a month. The annual Romance Writers of Australia conference was held in the beautiful and historic city of Fremantle in Western Australia. I flew over two days early so I could do a little exploring with Linda Charles (one of my writing mates from Hunter Romance Writers). We ended up in Jail. Okay it was the historical Fremantle jail, but still, it’s a jail.
Fremantle is full of lovely old buildings built from local sandstone. The conference began on Friday and we had three full days of workshops, celebrating, catching up with old friends and making new ones. Penguin hosted the cocktail party on Thursday night, which kicked everything off to a great start. Then Friday night Harlequin sponsored our Nautical and nice cocktail party where lots of pirates turned up, including Captain Jack Sparrow.
Saturday night the awards ceremony was a celebration of recognition and all that’s been achieved this past year. While the awards were announced we were served champagne, delicate desserts and for those with a really sweet tooth there was a chocolate fountain. I’m delighted to announce I took out third place in the Emerald to which I sincerely thank the judges and readers involved.
To top the night off, Harlequin Escape sponsored an after party where we danced our little hearts out.
This year’s conference was a huge success thanks to the Fremantle committee, guest speakers & workshop presenters, sponsors, volunteers and the Esplanade hotel staff.
SE Gilchrist & Stacey Nash. Yes, that is a torpedo between their legs which is why their grins are so big.
